The Monthly Summary, or End of Month Summary, is a tool that attempts to summarize all of your activity for each month.
You can find the Monthly Summary tool by clicking on Tools at the top of the page, then click on the Monthly Summary link. The Monthly Summary compares one month against the previous month so you can compare your spending and saving from one month to the next. Most dollar amounts will have a positive or negative percent change value next to them that lets you know how this compares to the previous month.
The Monthly Summary shows the data for one month at a time and you can move forward or backward in time, month by month.
The summary is broken into a few different sections. The first shows you your spending vs. saving over the past year compared to your average.
The accounts section shows your deposits and withdrawals by account and compares that to the previous month.
The categories section shows your spending for each category and how that compares to the previous month.
The budgets section compares how well you've stayed under your budgets this month.
Finally, the transactions section shows you how many deposits and withdrawals you entered for the month and compares those totals to the previous month. You can change which month is currently shown by clicking the backward and forward navigation buttons at the top of the summary.
The Monthly Gain/Loss chart takes the average amount you've spent and saved for the past year and determines what the average is (shown with the dotted yellow line). Each month shows the amount you've saved (or lost) by summing the deposits minus withdrawals.
The Account summary section shows how much you've deposited and withdrawn from each account and compares that amount to the previous month. If you hover over the percentage up or down it will show you the amount from the previous month.
The Category summary section shows how much you've deposited and withdrawn from each category and compares that amount to the previous month. If you hover over the percentage up or down it will show you the amount from the previous month.
The Budgets summary section shows each of your budgets that reset in the given month and whether you were over or under the budgeted amount. This section does not compare against the previous month.
