ClearCheckbook Introduces Bill Tracker Tool

1/26/2011 in ClearCheckbook Updates
We're proud to announce the release of a new Bill Tracker tool to our website. The Bill Tracker allows you to enter all monthly bills into the site. When you've paid one of the bills, you can let the system know and we'll keep track of when you last paid and for how much.

Premium members will also be able to view reports on their bill payments over time. This way you can see if you're paying more or less as time goes on for a specific bill. It's a great way to save money by seeing if you can lower your monthly bills.

We've also tied the Bill Tracker into the Reminders / Recurring Transactions tool. When you add a recurring transaction, you can identify it as being a Bill. When that recurring transaction gets added to the site, we'll update your bill tracker with the date and amount paid.

You can find the Bill Tracker by clicking on Tools at the top of the page and then click on Bill Tracker. We've also added a Dashboard Gadget that lets you see your bills and when they were last paid.

We hope you will take advantage of this new tool and use it in your arsenal to help manage your finances.

Currency and CSV Importing Updates

1/3/2011 in ClearCheckbook Updates
We have fixed an issue that was preventing currency conversions to take place in the search results. This has been taken care of and will now accurately convert to the global currency if you're using multiple currencies and they both appear in the search results.

We've also updated the functionality for CSV imports so they can better handle uploads from Buxfer. If you are importing CSV files that you exported from Buxfer, you'll need to remove the first line of the CSV file before importing it into ClearCheckbook (It should say something like: "All transactions for your_buxfer_login"). After that, please refer to the image below that displays what fields to match up with the Buxfer CSV file.

Android App Updated

11/7/2010 in ClearCheckbook Updates
We've released another update to the Android app that fixes more bugs and should eliminate more of the 0 balance issues. If you're using the Android app, we strongly recommend upgrading.

New Budget Features Available

We have just updated the budget area with two new options. Now, when you add or edit an existing budget, you can select whether or not you want deposits to be considered with the budget and you can also select if you want transfers to be considered in the budget.

ClearCheckbook Status Update

8/23/2010 in ClearCheckbook Updates
We wanted to let everyone know what's been going on behind the scenes and what our current and future plans for ClearCheckbook entail.

Our Last Big Update
The last major overhaul that ClearCheckbook saw was about two and a half years ago when we launched V3 of the site. This included the dashboard, premium memberships, more reporting, currencies, translations and more.

This last update was the culmination of about two years worth of suggestions and requests. We learned a lot about what to do and what not to do with this update and will be taking that knowledge into account in the future.

The Current Site
ClearCheckbook as it stands today has been receiving about 190-250 new user signups per day from the site and mobile apps. We have been continually monitoring forum posts and emails and have been fixing bugs that many people have been reporting.

The reason there hasn't been any real new feature announcements will be explained below.

The Future of ClearCheckbook
Like with the last big update to the site, we had to make a conscious decision about how to proceed. To incorporate many of the larger features that have been requested, we need to give the site a much larger overhaul so it can handle all of these upgrades. The best way to do this is to have one main development path and keep the majority of effort focused there.

This is what we're doing with ClearCheckbook. We are putting the majority of our time and resources into the next big update of the site and will be incorporating a lot of the feature requests and updates into that version. In an effort to cut back on duplicating work, we will not be releasing too many new features to the current site in the near future.

We aren't ready to give any real details on what's going to be included in the next big release of the site, but we are focusing on usability and new features. We have been working on this for about a month now, which is why you might have noticed a drop in our feedback in the forums and blog.

Mobile Apps
With the release of the latest Android update, all of the mobile apps should be essentially on the same page as far as features go. With our limited time and resources, we can't show the mobile apps the same kind of attention as we do the main site. We also don't have the resources to work on a Blackberry or Windows Mobile app at this time. In the future, this will change as we continue to grow.

Conclusion
While most of our new feature development will be shifting to the next version of the site, we are still committed to maintaining the current version of the site through bug fixes and smaller updates. As always, please send us feedback through the Contact Us link at the bottom right side of the page or through the forums. We respond to basically every email that requires a response and we're spending more time in the forums and help answer questions there.

ClearCheckbook is growing quickly and we are doing everything in our power to help pave the way for this growth.
